Wondering if Stripe offers crypto payouts? As cryptocurrency gains traction in global finance, many businesses are looking for platforms that support digital asset payments. In this post, we’ll explore whether Stripe allows payouts in crypto and what alternatives are available if you're looking to get paid in stablecoins or other digital currencies.
Does Stripe Payout in Crypto?
Yes, Stripe does offer crypto payouts, but in a limited and specific way. As of now, Stripe supports payouts in USDC (USD Coin), a popular stablecoin, through its Stripe Connect platform. However, this feature is currently in private preview, which means it is only available to select users who request and receive access.
These stablecoin payouts are designed for connected accounts that can access Stripe’s Express Dashboard. Once enabled, recipients can link a compatible crypto wallet to their account and receive payouts in USDC.
Key Requirements for Stripe Crypto Payouts
If you're considering offering USDC payouts through Stripe, there are a few important requirements to keep in mind:
Your Platform must be Based in the US
To enable stablecoin payouts, your Stripe Connect platform must be registered and activated in the United States. This involves setting up your platform, completing your account activation, and filling out your platform profile.
Only Individuals and Sole Proprietors are Eligible
At this time, Stripe only supports stablecoin payouts to individuals or sole proprietors. Businesses and non-profit organizations are not yet eligible for crypto payouts.
Express Dashboard is required
Recipients must have access to the Express Dashboard. This is where they can connect a crypto wallet that supports either the Base or Polygon Network and select USDC as their preferred payout currency. To enable this, you'll need to create a connected account with Express access for each recipient.
Use the Transfers API for payouts
To send stablecoin payouts, you’ll need to integrate with Stripe’s Transfers API. Even if your platform balance is in fiat currency, Stripe will automatically convert it to USDC when transferring to a connected account with a linked crypto wallet. If you haven’t built a full integration yet, Stripe also offers both no-code and programmatic options to get started.
